Why Choosing Breast Plastic Surgery Can Enhance The Way You Look And Feel

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Probably one of the most common and most talked about types of cosmetic surgery is breast plastic surgery. When most people think of breast plastic surgery, they typically think of breast enhancement. But if breast plastic surgery may be in your future, keep in mind that there are several different procedures that can provide you with your desired results.

Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation is surgery designed to enlarge your breasts through the use of breast implants. Breast augmentation, or breast enlargement, is frequently sought by women who are unhappy with the small size of their breasts.

Breast lift (mastopexy)
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and aging in general can take a toll on a woman’s breasts. Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts.

Breast reduction
Breast reduction, or mammaplasty, is a procedure that removes fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter and firmer. This can be a welcome relief to women with very large breasts, and can actually reduce medical problems such as neck and back pain.

Breast reconstruction (post mastectomy or congenital)
Breast reconstruction is a procedure that can rebuild the appearance of a breast after removal due to cancer or other disease. This can be one of the most rewarding surgical procedures available today.

While there are many types of breast plastic surgery available to you, the best way to determine which is the best fit for you is to talk with your plastic surgeon. He will be able to provide you with information on every type of procedure, and help answer your questions.

Plastic Surgery - Changing Your Look With A Brow Lift

Friday, August 24th, 2007

In the world of cosmetic surgery, the brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) is becoming an increasingly popular choice in enhancing ones appearance. The brow lift is specifically designed elevate the brow position and decrease the deep wrinkles in the area between the eye brows.

The brow lift is often used in combination with other procedures such as an eyelid surgery or a face lift. It is generally performed on an outpatient basis.

The Different Types of Brow Lifts

A surgeon will turn to one of two approaches towards lifting the forehead and eyebrow region of your face. The first is called the classic lift, while the second is referred to as an endoscopic lift. The classic lift is performed by creating one uninterrupted incision, starting at the same level as your ears and continuing up towards the hairline. Working with your hairline, your surgeon will adjust the incision to prevent visible scarring.

With the endoscopic lift, the surgeon will insert a small camera connected to a thin tube (called a scope) into an incision located near the hairline so that the surrounding muscles and tissues are visible on a screen. This information is then used to make decisions regarding additional changes to the brow lift. During the procedure, a surgeon may use anywhere from two to six small incisions in the hairline. From the incisions, the skin of the forehead as well as the hair bearing skin at the top of the head will be lifted up with special instruments. The skin will be moved back, causing the eyebrow region to be raised.

For many patients, the brow lift is a perfect solution to heaviness in the upper eye lid region created by a drooping brow. Many patients choose the surgery because they feel they look sad, angry or tired, and are looking for a more youthful appearance. The brow lift lessens forehead lines, smoothes out the skin and creates a more alert and youthful appearance.

The Surgery
The surgery will take place on an outpatient basis, and can be performed under general anesthesia. Most surgeries will take anywhere from two to three hours, and are often combined with other surgeries such as eyelid or facelifts.

Postoperatively, the patient can expect swelling and bruising. Applying an ice compress may help decrease both the swelling and the purple bruising that may occur. As you recover, you will notice the improvement around the eyebrow area of your face.

Your surgeon will be able to provide you with more information, and be able to share with you the results you can expect, based on your facial structure and your desired results. To find out more about a brow lift, schedule a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon.

Looking Younger With Restylane

Monday, August 20th, 2007

If you’ve been looking into collagen treatments or Botox to help reduce the fine lines that are appearing near your eyes or lips, there’s another treatment that is providing positive results. Restylane was approved by the FDA in December 2003, and has since been used in more than 1.5 million treatments worldwide. Restylane is a cosmetic dermal filler made of a crystal clear gel called Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid, or NASHAâ„¢. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body, and can be used to provide volume to the skin.

How does Restylane work?
Restylane is applied in a similar manner to other non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and is injected into the area of choice. When it is injected into the lip, wrinkle or fold, it works together with the body’s own hyaluronic acid, and joins forces to create volume, giving a more youthful and healthy appearance.

What type of results can I expect?
Just like other forms of injectables, Restylane will have an immediate affect. It also has long-term temporary results, and can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. The results will vary, depending on your lifestyle, age, and skin factors.

What are the side effects?
One of the reasons Restylane is growing in popularity is because of its safety. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin and body do no react to the material. In fact, very few reactions have occurred in people electing this product. The reported reactions do include temporary redness, bruising, swelling, itching or tenderness, and may last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. This makes Restylane very appealing and a convenient solution for reducing fine lines and wrinkles that appear on the face and neck.

What is the recovery time?
Restylane injections can be administered anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or more, depending on how many areas will be injected. Immediately after the treatment you may experience slight swelling, tenderness or redness, but you should easily be able to return to your normal routine.

As a precaution, you should also avoid alcohol and exercise for six to ten hours following the procedure, and avoid sunbathing or cold weather activities until all redness and swelling disappears.

What do I need to do before a Restylane treatment?
The best part of this procedure is it requires no pre-testing. Because hyaluronic acid is present in the human body, there is no need for skin tests to determine allergic reactions.

Who is the ideal candidate for Restylane treatment?
Restylane is most effective in correcting wrinkles and folds around the nose, lips, eyes and cheeks. It also provides natural fullness to the lips when used for lip augmentation. The ideal candidate is a person who is looking for minor correction, and is aware that periodic treatments are required to retain the necessary results.

Natural Results From Your Facial Plastic Surgery

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Our appearance plays an important role in our daily lives. The way we look has a dramatic effect on the way we act and perceive the way people are viewing us. That’s why choosing to have facial plastic surgery can be one of the most influential decisions a person will ever make.

A facial plastic surgeon is typically a board certified surgeon who specializes in addressing surgery of the head and neck. These surgeons perform the majority of these elective facial plastic surgery procedures, and perform a wide variety of procedures. These procedures include:

- Blepharoplasty, or surgery of the eyelids. This procedure can correct droopy eyelids that can make you look older and impair your vision.

- Facial scar revision. Facial scarring is caused by a wide variety of sources, including accidents, surgery, a burn or acne. Successful facial plastic surgery can reduce the signs of some facial scars.

  1. Forehead lifts. Often the first signs of aging begin to appear in the brow and forehead area due to the effects of sun, wind and the pull of gravity. This facial plastic surgery procedure will tighten loose skin and remove the excess forehead wrinkling and drooping.
  2. Mentoplasty, or surgery of the chin. A well-defined chin can have a dramatic effect on one’s profile, and is often combined with Rhinoplasty, or surgery of the nose, to create facial balance.
  3. Otoplasty, or surgery of the ears. Redefining one’s ears can have a powerful effect on self-consciousness and self esteem. Both children and adults can benefit from this relatively straightforward facial plastic surgery technique.
Rhinoplasty, or surgery of the nose. One of the most common requests for facial plastic surgery starts with a request for the nose. Whether it’s being unhappy with the nost they were born with, aging or injury, nothing will have a greater impact on your overall appearance.
  4. Rhytidectomy, or surgery of the face. Aging is inevitable. As the years go by, the effects of aging begin to appear on the face and neck, including crow’s feet near the corner of the eyes, forehead lines, and folds around the chin and front neck area. Both heredity and personal habits such as sun exposure have a huge impact. Having Rhytidectomy, or a face lift, can improve not only your looks, but also your self-confidence.
  5. Wrinkle treatment, or botox injections. The gradual development of facial wrinkles, whether fine lines on the surface or deeper creases and folds, can be reduced by clear-cut procedures.
  6. While results from just one facial plastic surgery procedure can have a dramatic effect on not only the way you look at yourself, but also the way you live your life, the best place to start is with more information. Visit with the staff at a reputable facial plastic surgery center and find out which procedures are right for you.

Looking Natural; Feeling Great With Breast Enhancement

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular and common elective surgeries today.

Breast enhancement procedures have risen over the past three decades thanks to more sophisticated, less invasive medical techniques. As more select procedures were discovered and higher quality materials for the implants were found, the demand has gone up sequentially.

Today over 250,000 women every year choose breast enhancement. In general, women site two reasons for moving ahead with breast enhancement: they’ve always had a small cup size and want to increase it to be more shapely; or they’ve lost their fullness and perkiness due to weight loss or pregnancy.

Whatever the reason, with today’s options, a new look can be yours in just a few hours.

Once you decide on breast enhancement, find a reputable cosmetic surgeon to perform the procedure. Ask your friends, or inquire with your gynecologist for recommendations. You can also do research online and find recommendations through various sites. Spend some time on the websites of doctors you may wish to consider. Read their information, and request special reports or subscriptions to their newsletters, if offered.

When you’re ready, make an initial consultation to discuss the details. Remember, you are under no pressure; just meet with the doctor and the staff to learn more about them, and how they handle the surgical procedure.

Find out about the sizes and types of implants available. Both saline and silicone implants are options; the choice should be made with your lifestyle in mind. Discuss your lifestyle, and share your activities. Your doctor can share with you his recommendations based on the information you provide.

As technology improves, the life of your implant will also increase. Discuss how long your implants will last, and what is a normal expectancy. With today’s top choices, such as the saline implant, keep in mind they will look good and feel natural for a long time.

Also discuss common misconceptions about breast implants.

These are no data linking breast implants to breast cancer. Likewise, breast implants will have no impact on your ability to nurse your baby. If you have any other concerns, discuss them with your doctor. He will be able to give you the facts, and dismiss the myths.

Keep in mind the entire procedure is becoming easier every year. But it is still surgery. Breast enhancement is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means you will return home a short time after the procedure. Be prepared to spend a few days relaxing, and reducing your normal activities. You won’t be able to exercise of lift heavy objects for a few weeks.

As you return to your regular routine, you’ll do so with new vigor. Not only will you look different, but you’ll feel different too.

7 Ways To Help Boost Your Self Esteem

Friday, August 10th, 2007

In today’s busy world, it’s sometimes difficult to find the time to do something for yourself. Yet spending just a little time everyday on yourself will boost your self esteem, ultimately allowing you to be a better person for yourself and your family. Try out these 7 ideas.

1. Do something you’ve been putting off.
From the simplest task of writing a letter, to something you’ve been contemplating for some time like a facelift, taking control and getting it done can have a huge impact on your self-esteem. It will make you feel good to finally be able to place a checkmark by that lingering goal.

2. Make time to do something you are good at.
Getting caught in the day-to-day chores of life can bring down anyone’s mood. Make sure you dedicate some time every week to do something you enjoy, and are good at. From painting, to dancing, to writing, or even golfing; whatever you choose make sure its something that requires your full attention.

3. Learn how to relax completely.
If you are feeling low or anxious about something, the first thing to do is to stop and relax. Feeling anxious or low is often accompanied by stress. When you concentrate on relaxing, your feelings will begin to disappear. Choose to learn a wonderful skill that will continue to help you throughout your life, such as meditation, yoga or Tai Chi.

4. Congratulate yourself on things you’ve already accomplished.
Look back at your life; what have you completed in your life? Don’t look for large items; instead, look for the little things in life. Passing a test, losing 5 pounds after the holidays, and or signing up for a new class are all reasons of celebration.

5. Establish goals you can realistically achieve.
What separates a doable goal from one that will never be achieved is the ability to see yourself accomplishing it. Looking like you did when you were 20 is not possible at the age of 50. But you can have a goal to lose 10 pounds, or to have a Botox treatment twice a year to reduce the fine lines around your eyes.

6. Rely on your own opinions.
Your goals and values have seen you through this far. Don’t do things based on the beliefs of others. Instead, choose things that will make you feel better about yourself, and have a more positive attitude towards life. If you’ve always wanted cosmetic surgery to fix the bump on your nose, then by all means do it. Taking charge will do wonders for your attitude.

7. Spend time with nurturing people.
Take a look at the people you spend time with. Do they have a positive outlook on life? Do they have a positive lifestyle? Spending time with positive people will motivate you to take charge of your life, and turn it into a happy, successful experience.

Boosting your self-esteem isn’t a once in awhile thing. Instead, it’s a process that should help you live a stronger, healthier lifestyle. Spend time every day taking care of yourself, and find things that will help you become a better you.
